Shoosmiths

Shoosmiths is a full-service law firm offering advisory, corporate, and real estate services.

With over 400 legal advisers, including 50+ partners, the firm has one of the largest real estate practices in the UK. Its national team provides multi-disciplinary support across transactional real estate, construction, planning, disputes, environmental, tax, real estate M&A, and regulatory matters.

At Shoosmiths, we share the West Midlands Growth Company’s belief in the region – its people, places, and communities. We have operated in Birmingham for over 20 years, proudly supporting clients on many transformative development and investment projects.

From advising on the early stages of Peddimore, supporting the landmark acquisition of the Gracechurch Shopping Centre in Sutton Coldfield, to assisting Stoford’s regeneration of the historic Typhoo Tea factory in Digbeth for the BBC, Shoosmiths is committed to driving the region’s growth.

Developers, investors, and occupiers increasingly recognise the West Midlands’ potential, but we must continue championing it globally and domestically. That’s why we’re partnering with WMGC at UKREiiF 2025 – uniting public and private sectors to showcase the region’s opportunities.

Lewis Thomas, BD Manager (Real Estate) at Shoosmiths

Shoosmiths combines the size, expertise, and breadth needed to tackle any legal requirement as needed. Its real estate practice operates across five markets: living, corporate occupier, real estate investment, real estate finance, and development.

The firm is assisting clients with some of the UK’s most ambitious commercial and residential real estate projects. This includes urban regeneration, complex developments, major funding and investment deals, and creating vibrant, sustainable communities.

In the West Midlands, the firm is advising clients on transformative projects, including supporting Stoford’s appointment as preferred developer for the regeneration of a site in Birmingham to provide a new facility for the BBC. Its experts also advised SAV Group and BPG on the landmark acquisition of the Gracechurch Shopping Centre, a 1m sq ft retail centre in Sutton Coldfield, with the firms now progressing a development vision to create a ‘vibrant, mixed use town centre’.
