Charter Court Financial Services

Based at Wolverhampton Business Park, US-owned Charter Court Financial Services is one of the fastest-growing specialist mortgage companies in the UK. Operating in niche markets underserved by High Street banks, the company offers a range of mortgages and savings products, specialising in Buy-to-Let, residential, bridging and second charge lending.
Hoarding messaging in Wolverhampton, reading: "All change, The city of Wolverhamption's on track".

Charter Court has experienced a period of rapid growth since it was founded in 2008, after diversifying from its core activity of credit risk analysis into the mortgage and savings markets. Starting out with just 28 employees, the company now occupies four offices with a headcount of nearly 650 staff.

The company has been ranked in the top 10 of the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For over the last three consecutive years.

Why the West Midlands?

Home to the largest regional finance district in the UK outside of London, the West Midlands has over 113,000 employees in the financial services sector across a total of 4,390 companies.

Charter Court is the latest in a string of US-investments that the region has secured, exemplifying the region’s allure for financial investors overseas. Figures released by the Department for International Trade show that in 2018/19, the West Midlands remained the leading UK region for attracting Foreign Direct Investment outside of London and the South East, with the US identified as the biggest source of projects landing in the region.

The company has been based in Wolverhampton since its inception and chose the city because of its pipeline of talent and thriving local business community.

Ian Lonergan, Chief Executive, said:

“We have built a highly successful team here in Wolverhampton and a big part of that is down to creating a working environment in which we can thrive and feel proud of. Our most recent expansion saw us accommodate an extra 250 people into a purpose-built office space. We have consistently hired staff from the community to draw on their skills and expertise. There is no doubt that the growth and success of our company is down to the commitment and enthusiasm of our people.”

A transforming region

Officially opened in 2018, the company’s new state-of-the-art three-storey office building boasts cutting-edge technology and environmentally-aware design. The company worked closely with Wolverhampton City Council as well as local suppliers to bring the building to life.

Alan Cleary, Managing Director, said:

“We have always been committed to Wolverhampton as a place to do business. The city has a lot of potential for companies like us who rely on hiring the very best talent. Wolverhampton is undergoing an exciting period of transformation and we are looking forward to our future here now more than ever.”

The city is fast becoming a destination of choice for companies looking to benefit from enhanced connectivity, high quality of life standards and reduced operational costs.

Currently in development, Wolverhampton Railway Station is set to become a major interchange point, connecting bus, rail and metro services to create a fully integrated commuter hub.

Putting Wolverhampton on the map both nationally and internationally, the Interchange will facilitate a new commercial district at the heart of the bustling city centre, giving companies access to brand new, affordable, high-grade office space, as well as retail and leisure facilities.
