Founded in 1836 as the Birmingham and Midland Bank, where the core of HSBC’s UK business originated, the bank has invested 200 million pounds, including a new building, in the city where it first began trading. HSBC UK serves over 14.75 million customers across the UK, supported by 24,000 colleagues.

As part of this investment, HSBC has acquired a 250-year lease on a new 210,000 sq. ft. office building in Birmingham’s Arena Central enterprise zone. HSBC UK’s head office at 1 Centenary Square opened its doors in July 2018, and was the first building in the city to be constructed to LEED Gold accreditation.

Ian Stuart, Chief Executive of HSBC UK said:

“Birmingham’s growth as an attractive hub for business, culture and people continues, and we are incredibly proud to be headquartered here at the heart of the UK as we build a bank fit for the future.

“We are playing a leading role in supporting the UK’s transition to net zero, embedding new and flexible ways of working across our business, and using our position in society to champion diversity and inclusion in all its forms. We are here to open a world of opportunity for our customers, our colleagues, our communities and the planet we all share.”
