London Electric Vehicle Co Case Study

The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) designs and manufactures the iconic and most advanced electric black cab taxi.
LEVC Coventry West Midlands.

Owned by Chinese firm Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, in 2015 the firm invested £250 million in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art headquarters and production facility for LEVC at Coventry’s Ansty Park – a leading hub for manufacturing technology R&D in the West Midlands – to support its ambitious product development and growth plans. Since the factory opened, further investments have been made by Geely, with total investment now standing at £500 million.

The new facility marked the largest ever greenfield investment in the UK by a Chinese company and was supported with funding from the UK Government’s Regional Growth Fund and other UK and local government support.

The site has driven record levels of success for LEVC, with 2019 ranking as the best year in history for sales of its renowned TX taxi model.

Building on the popularity of its electric taxi brand, the company is diversifying its product range into the electric van market. Its factory in Coventry is central to these plans.

The advanced flexibility of LEVC’s manufacturing plant has enabled the firm to build prototypes of its new electric van on the existing TX vehicle production line. Once tested and finalised, LEVC’s new van will set new standards in green logistics, with 80 miles (130km) of emissions-free driving and an extended electrically driven total range of over 370 miles (600km).
