Market Ask

The city is seeking an Investor / Development partner for Phases 1 and 2 but is open to the JV model for delivery.

The GIC is a core tenet of the city’s growing status as a world-leading research cluster in green technologies.

The GIC aims to deliver 23,766 sqm of new commercial and incubation floorspace – equating to over 1,220 new jobs across all sites totalling around £200 million investment and contributing to Wolverhampton’s goal to become net carbon zero by 2041.

The site is already home to the University of Wolverhampton’s Springfield Campus, the National Brownfield Institute, a university-owned science park and the Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills.

The first-phase development at the University of Wolverhampton’s Springfield Campus proposes a further 12,066m² of commercial innovation floorspace over three units designed to highly sustainable credentials. This space will create opportunities for business growth and start-ups around the National Centre for Sustainable Construction.

A second phase will see development activity at the University of Wolverhampton Science Park, which is home to over 100 businesses across a diverse range of sectors. Existing occupiers include those in aerospace, agricultural technology, automotive, construction, information technology, life sciences, professional and business services.

A Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing & Digital Innovation is proposed, comprising incubator space and start-up units, as a hub of digital economy and aerospace. It builds on the University of Wolverhampton’s ambitions to develop a Centre of Excellence for Digital Innovation in Smart Cities.

Location

The GIC corridor will connect key assets at the University’s Springfield Campus with Wolverhampton Science Park and the core city centre and potentially further north to the i54 industrial zone. The Northern end of the corridor is one of the main gateways into the city and has always been one of the region’s premier locations for employment and commercial development.
