Birmingham City University is an engine for growth in the West Midlands through the breadth and depth of its academic portfolio, delivered by its four faculties:

Birmingham City University drives innovation through interdisciplinary collaborations between industry specialists and academic experts.

There are 6 key areas of focus:

  • Driving SME growth– A collaboration with Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership and GBCC to drive business growth amongst SMEs across Greater Birmingham.
  • Centre for Brexit Studies– Launched January 2017, this academic facility drives and supports the university’s work on Brexit.
  • Innovation Institutes–The Institute for Creative Innovation, the Institute for Sustainable Futures and the Institute of Health and Quality of Life help businesses from the private, public and third sectors drive innovative projects and business solutions.
  • STEAM – Transforming STEM into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths). STEAMhouse is an innovation facility that gives organisations and start-ups a space to explore new solutions to today’s challenges.
  • Knowledge Hub – The Knowledge Hub project is a pioneering concept aimed at facilitating the deployment and transfer of knowledge between private, public, and third sector organisations.
  • Skills Engine – The Skills Engine is a unique, agile partnership between employers and educators, enhanced by cutting-edge technologies and facilities. It enables learners to gain the know-how and competencies to meet real employer requirements.
