The 13th World Congress on Railway Research (WCRR) Exhibition

6th – 10th June / The ICC / Birmingham

  • A gathering of the global railway research and innovation community for an exciting five-day programme of activities.
  • Over 1,000 attendees are expected to attend in person and online from the railway industry.
  • An international audience with people from the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, USA, Korea, and others.

The triannual event last held in Tokyo 2019, will take place at the heart of the UK here in the West Midlands organised by RSSB and the University of Birmingham.

This year’s theme, ‘Reshaping our railways post-pandemic: Research with an impact’, will bring together decision makers, researchers, government officials, technical experts, and industry leaders advocating innovation as part of a global forum for the rail research community.

Championing the value and benefits of railway research, excellence in research and technology development, and worldwide collaboration and sharing of technical knowledge are all but essential to rail’s recovery post-pandemic in attracting customers, encouraging modal shift, and delivering great value for money leading on sustainability.

The West Midlands is unique in its collaborative nature. The speed of research between local academia, research institutes, and industry partners is creating a new wave of investment opportunities in the rail supply chain within digitalisation and decarbonisation. The home of HS2, the region has considerable R&D and innovation assets and is transforming the UK’s railway network with advancements in electrification, digital rail, very light rail, cyber security and 5G, but this is only the start.
