Tyseley Energy Park (TEP) leverages cutting-edge technology to transform clean energy innovation across the West Midlands, stimulating new technologies that contribute to the region’s plan to become a net zero-carbon economy by 2041.
Located at the heart of Birmingham Green Energy Innovation District in the east of the city, Tyseley Energy Park’s mission is to transform clean energy innovation in Birmingham and the West Midlands. The facility is stimulating and demonstrating new technologies, turning them into fully commercially viable energy systems to contribute to the region’s net zero carbon economy plans.
Within the park is the University of Birmingham’s Energy Innovation Centre (BEIS), a biomass power station, a hydrogen electrolyser and the National Centre for the Decarbonisation of Heat which is due to be completed in 2026.
Tyseley Energy Park supercharges sustainable innovation with its Birmingham Energy Innovation Centre, an £8.5m research facility with a focus on hydrogen and fuel cells, energy storage, magnet and battery recycling and waste-to-fuel conversion.
In partnership with the University of Birmingham (UoB) and Birmingham City Council, Tyseley Energy Park can access knowledge and resources that enable companies to develop sustainable, cutting-edge innovations at the park. TEP’s Business Incubation Hub assists climate-focused startups in developing their proposition and entering the market. It is also a key facilitator of the Climate Innovation Platform, an incubation programme designed by UoB and the Energy Systems Catapult.
Tyseley Energy Park tackles the challenges of clean energy on multiple fronts, from hydrogen-fuelled vehicles to energy from waste and other renewable sources. It’s a great demonstration of what can be achieved through effective partnership between industry and academia.
