West Midlands HealthTech Innovation Accelerator
The West Midlands Health Tech Innovation Accelerator (WMHTIA) is a government-funded initiative uniting 21 industry stakeholders, including the NHS and leading regional universities, to facilitate the transition of health and medical technologies from concept to implementation.
Your business could benefit from real-world NHS product usability testing, evaluation services and international market access support. Gain access to regulatory and clinical engagement, expert R&D infrastructure for product development and sponsored office workspace at one of six leading Innovation Hubs across the region.
Take advantage of regular networking events and tailored business support, including assistance with commercial introductions, funding, recruitment and securing local investment.

Access to the NHS
The UK’s National Health Service (NHS), providing free healthcare to over 67 million people, offers an ideal environment for clinical trials and research due to its centralised system and diverse patient population.
The Global Growth Programme’s Access to the NHS module, facilitated by Health Innovation West Midlands, helps businesses conduct real-world trials and secure the adoption of their products.
It includes a free initial assessment, NHS Pilot Access to identify partners and facilitate trials, and NHS Adoption Support for navigating procurement and potential wider roll-out. The package also offers sponsored office space at one of six leading West Midlands Innovation Hubs and facilitated introductions to the regional HealthTech and MedTech ecosystem. Finally, benefit from dedicated business support covering grant funding, recruitment and securing local investment.
Plug & Play Health
Through the Global Growth Programme, companies can access the Plug & Play Health Hub, using industry-leading expertise to accelerate innovation cycles, reduce R&D risks and connect to a global ecosystem of startups. Subject-specific accelerator programmes available include AI Models, Digital Discovery, Digital Therapeutics and MedTech.
Gain access as one of 12 companies to Plug & Play’s six-month Global Health Accelerator Programme, as well as sponsored office space at one of six leading Innovation Hubs across the region. As well as facilitated introductions into the region’s HealthTech & MedTech Ecosystem, companies receive bespoke business support, including monthly meetings with an expert advisor to discuss for advice on grant funding, recruitment and securing local investment.

Precision Health Technologies Accelerator
The University of Birmingham’s Precision Health Technologies Accelerator offers companies state-of-the-art laboratory and office space, fostering collaboration with top researchers and opinion leaders to speed up the development of new therapies and products.
This support package includes access to fully serviced wet and dry laboratories, flexible office space, prototyping and manufacturing facilities, and specialist research support for product development and trials.
In addition, receive sponsored office space at one of six world-class Innovation Hubs across the region and facilitated introductions to the broader West Midlands’ HealthTech and MedTech ecosystem. Benefit from dedicated business support with monthly meetings for advice on funding, recruitment and local investment.
Scaling Advanced Manufacturing
Home to one of the UK’s largest advanced manufacturing clusters, the West Midlands offers extensive opportunities for developing and manufacturing traditional, emerging and next-generation medical devices and products.
The Scaling Advanced Manufacturing module is designed for Health and MedTech companies seeking to scale up their manufacturing process via specialist support with technology and skills.
